Pointillism is an artistic style that uses dots to create art.

Famous pointilism painting by Seurat

detail from Suerat's painting, La Parade de Cirque (1889), showing the contrasting dots of paint used in pointillism.

Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. The term Pointillism was first coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists, and is now used without its earlier mocking connotation.

In our class, we used q-tips to help us achieve a pointillist look.   Each student made 3 pointillist paintings. The first 2 paintings were experimental and the last we did used fall colors to create a fall tree.   All of our students did a beautiful job!  We have such an AWESOME class!
